U-BELL, a life event company for weddings, funerals, and ceremonial occasions, wanted to create a whisky that would be appropriate for the occasion, so they requested it of Kenichi Hashimoto, the owner-chef of a famous Kyoto-style kaiseki restaurant and such a big whisky fan that create a whisky kaiseki.
Suntory Chief Blender Seiichi Koshimizu, a close friend of Mr. Hashimoto, created a special single malt whisky.
It has a luxurious taste by having been aged for a long time in French oak casks kept in the Suntory Yamazaki distillery's cellar. In 2012, it was bottled as "Genmu" and "Ka" (means "Nice day, Nice person"), and sold in limited quantities for a period of time.
"Genmu" is a perfect match for a party where people gather and share their joys, just like the harmony of the richly original malts.
"Ka" is for a "happy occasion" to celebrate the beginning of a "marriage", as likened life to a whisky that has been nurtured over many years from a rare encounter between malts to a mellow, elegant product.
The logo, created by Kyoto-based calligrapher Shotei Ibata in black ink, represents a world view of Japanese whisky that is now appreciated beyond national borders.

STORY
Creation of "Genmu" and "Ka"
Mr. Koshimizu carefully selected four types of malt: two port wine barrels, a French oak barrel, and a puncheon barrel as the base, from among the original sake produced in the direct-fired distillation kettle that he dared to revive.
In addition, including Mongolian oak casks that were casked in 1960, sherry casks, and white oak casks were vatted to create "Genmu" and "Ka", a combination of six single malts selected for their rich individuality.
It is made at 48 degrees, and non-chill filtered.
The bottling was done so as not to remove more components than necessary.
